Royal BC Museum PARC Campus – Colwood, BC

Maple Reinders was selected to design and construct the new Royal BC Museum PARC Collections and Research Building in Colwood, British Columbia. The facility was developed to support the long-term preservation, protection and celebration of British Columbia’s history and collections.

The approximately 163,600 square foot building provides a purpose-built home for the Province’s collections, BC Archives and research departments. The facility also includes dedicated research laboratories and learning spaces designed to improve access to the collections for researchers and British Columbians.

A key feature of the project is its extensive use of mass timber, which contributes to both the building’s structural design and architectural character. Specialized spaces and building systems were designed to provide the controlled environments needed to safely preserve important cultural, social and natural history collections.

The new facility brings collections, research and learning together in a modern environment. It provides the infrastructure needed to protect British Columbia’s heritage while creating new opportunities for research, education and public access.
