Public Storage – Oakville

Maple Reinders took on the Design-Build contract for a new Public Storage facility in Oakville, Ontario. The facility is comprised of four individual buildings which together consist of 86,000 net rentable SF of space, divided amongst 770 self-storage units. The principal building stands at three stories high, overlooking the north side of the QEW just east of Third Line.

It features architectural precast concrete paneling as well as energy efficient insulated metal panels and multiple windows. Three additional buildings are located to the rear of the site and are custom, pre-engineered structures designed specifically for self-storage use.

Storage unit sizes range from 25 to 300. The entire property is fully access controlled, and under 24-hour video surveillance. The principal building is climate controlled, and all units on the property are equipped with individual alarm systems. The facility is equipped with two loading docks — one at ground level and one adjustable to meet the demands of various sized vehicles, two freight elevators, and a variety of equipment to assist in moving goods.

The facility was built using the latest available technologies to ensure that it is ‘Green compliant.’ All lighting is energy efficient and controlled by motion sensors limiting energy usage when the building is vacant. A computer system allows management to remotely monitor and control all heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems ensuring that the building is running efficiently and that during peak demand hours, the facility is minimizing the amount of energy used.
