The Comox Fixed-Wing Search & Rescue (FWSAR) Training Centre is a new state-of-the-art aircraft training (operation and maintenance) facility with mixed use including offices, classrooms, flight simulators, and a full-size airplane.
The building consists of two distinct areas – the hangar and simulator area. The Hangar is a single-story high roof, approximately 18,000 SF; while the office/classroom area is three-stories comprising approximately 17,500 SF per floor.
The construction consists of concrete foundations supporting a structural steel skeleton complete with OWSJ and metal decking to support the modified bitumen membrane roof. The exterior building finish will be a mix of insulated panel, masonry, glazing and other.
The building sits on a site of approximately 1.4 hectares within Canadian Forces Base Comox and will be completely serviced with storm, sanitary, water, natural gas, communications, and electrical services and utilities. Site finishes will include the installation of natural grasses, asphalt paving, and concrete walkways.
