On this project Maples Reinders was tasked with the conversion of former office administration areas into a world class teaching environment with focused study areas and dedicated learning spaces. This project had several unique elements incorporated into it.
Student Support and Instructor Prep Area: A casual space for touch down work or studying incorporating a feature green wall to improve indoor air quality and livens the space for a healthier learning environment.
Indigenous Smudging Room: With a special HVAC system to disperse any smoke or scents burned in the room.
Moveable and Writable Partitions: between two studios allow students to use the walls as a canvas for drawing or writing and expand the space for their creative endeavours.
Existing Heritage Elements: including glazing and concrete forms were left in place in corridors and balanced with thoughtful acoustic baffles.

H.S. Grenda Middle School accommodates 600 students for the District of Lake Country. The modern three-storey middle school consists of open Learning Studios complete with overhead operational doors which connect to adjacent outside spaces creating a multi-user learning studio.
The construction of the school took place while the existing Westbrook School (built in 1953) was in use for an entire school year. The contract included abatement and demolition of the existing school which was undertaken during the summer break.
Maple Reinders was contracted to Design-Bid-Build a 35,000 SF curvilinear building, which included operable windows, a raised access floor with personal air control devices, flow-through air pattern circulation; as well as warm and inviting interior finishes to add to the level of human comfort for occupants.
