Organics Waste Management
Maple Reinders was awarded the Design-Build Construction Management contract for the High Solids Anaerobic Digestion Facility, which was integrated into the operation of the existing Integrated Processing and Transfer Facility and Edmonton Composting Facility at the Edmonton Waste Management Centre.
The high solids anaerobic digester has a capacity of 48,000 tonnes/yr. The biogas (methane) captured is used to generate both heat and electricity via the combined heat and power units, for the Edmonton Waste Management Centre.
The City of Edmonton has contracted an Anaerobic Digestion vendor to supply a specialty process equipment package to provide for high solids anaerobic digestion of 40,000 wet tonnes of feedstock annually. This feedstock includes source-separated organics and mechanically separated organic fraction of municipal solid waste, including yard waste.
The Maple Reinders team performed detailed design and construction of the foundations, building superstructure, installation of all equipment, and fabrication of cast-in-place concrete; digester and aeration boxes and outdoor COCCUS tank with concrete secondary containment.
