New private hanger and commercial office
The Region of Waterloo International Airport (CYKF) has undergone a number of recent infrastructure improvements, including the strengthening of the runway and the widening of taxiways so they can accommodate Boeing 757 jets. As part of the airport expansion, IP Aviation LP entered into a lease agreement with the airport, and contracted with Maple Reinders to design and build a new private aircraft hangar and commercial office. The new facility consists of a 12 metre high, 1,690 m2 aircraft maintenance hangar featuring a motorized 36.5 meter wide by 8.5 meter high slicing four leaf sliding door. The hangar includes an open hangar area, maintenance shop, quarantine storage, commissary storage for aircraft supplies, maintenance foreman’s office, and secure storage for nitrogen and oxygen bottles. The single-storey 550 m2 office includes a passenger lounge, chief pilot’s office, flight engineer office, open work area, flight manual library, computer/telecom room, laundry, staff facilities and meeting room. The NAV Canada compliant structure is structural steel; the exterior walls of the hangar are comprised of an insulated metal siding system and the office area is finished with curtain walls and aluminum panels. The roofing system is a conventional 4-ply roofing system with a 5 year warranty.
